BLUE RODEO - DUST TO GOLD
On the eve of releasing their album 1000 Arms, Blue Rodeo got in touch, looking for a music video. A welcome surprise to be sure, but also a bit of a daunting one. They provided the entire album, as said “you pick”. The moment I heard “Dust to Gold”, I knew that was the one. Moody, mysterious, with an undeniable cinematic quality. The next thing to pop in my head was “this has to be a modern dance video”. Luckily, when presented the idea, the band eagerly agreed. Shot over two days, this piece was all about look and styling. Each section was colour coded, with live colour transitions controlled by a DMX operator. It was quite a bit of choreography (cough) to make it all work together, but in the end, we managed just that. Fun fact, the shot of our hero taking a last swig was done in one take, as his cab to the airport, which he absolutely could not miss, was impatiently waiting outside in the snow.
I pulled triple duty on this one, acting as Director, Editor & Photographer.
